According to NUDT, Tianhe-2 will be used for simulation, analysis, and government security applications.[1]
With 16,000 computer nodes, each comprising two Intel Ivy Bridge Xeon processors and three Xeon Phi chips, it represents the world's largest installation of Ivy Bridge and Xeon Phi chips, counting a total of 3,120,000 cores.[3] Each of the 16,000 nodes possess 88 gigabytes of memory (64 used by the Ivy Bridge processors, and 8 gigabytes for each of the Xeon Phi processors). The total CPU plus coprocessor memory is 1,375 TiB (approximately 1.34 PiB).
During the testing phase, Tianhe-2 was laid out in a non-optimal confined space. When assembled at its final location, the system will have a theoretical peak performance of 54.9 petaflops. At peak power consumption, the system itself would draw 17.6 megawatts of power. Including external cooling, the system would draw an aggregate of 24 megawatts. The computer complex would occupy 720 square meters of spaceence side of things is shrouded in secrecy, but Chinese media reports say it'll also be used to predict earthquakes, for climate modelling and to help China's car industry

Android dominates global tablet market: Survey

If you are one of those people who

think #iPad is the 'real' tablet PC, then

FYI - #Android is the global winner

WASHINGTON: The Google Android platform extended its dominance over Apple in the tablet market in early 2014, a research firm said Monday.
Strategy Analytics said Android grabbed 65.8% of global tablet sales in the first quarter, up from 53% a year ago.
Apple meanwhile saw iPad sales slump and its market share tumbled to 28.4% from 40.3% a year earlier, the survey showed.
Global tablet sales in the quarter were up 19% at 57.6 million units, the market research firm said.
"Android continues to make steady progress and now commands two-thirds of the tablet market share," said Peter King, analyst at Strategy Analytics.
While Apple ignited the tablet market with its first iPads, it has now lost its dominance to Android in the same manner as the iPhone has seen its share eroded in the smartphone market.
The report said iPad sales were down 16% from the same period a year ago.
"We believe that the disappointing performance in the early part of the calendar year is because Apple has changed its product release cycle to the holiday timeframe," King said.
He added that Apple "will likely lose share over the next several months to refreshed Android products, but we believe Apple will win back meaningful high-end market share during the final months of the calendar year."
Android sales totaled some 38 million in the period to Apple's 25.6 million, the report said.
The survey also found a steady market share for tablets using Microsoft Windows.
Windows tablet sales rose to 3.4 million from 2.8 million a year earlier, keeping a steady market share of 5.8%, according to Strategy Analytics.
"There may be an uptick in Windows following Microsoft's decision to offer Windows for free for sub nine-inch devices," the report noted.
"We may see a new batch of eight-inch Windows-based tablets with reduced prices; they will still not be as inexpensive as Android, but it will enable them to be more competitive and appealing to a wider audience."
But the researchers said a dearth of apps continues to be a problem for Microsoft, "with seemingly little incentive for developers to work on the platform."

Top 6 iPhone News Apps

There are dozens of iPhone news apps available, and some are not worth downloading. The good news? There are a number of iPhone apps that will satisfy your inner news junkie with breaking news alerts, in-depth reporting and lots of multimedia content. Here are our picks for the best iPhone news apps.

1. AP Mobile

AP Mobile iPhone App
Not only does the AP Mobile iPhone app (The Associated Press, Free) include a ton of news content, but it also syncs with your local news and weather. Other nifty features include push notifications for breaking news alerts, gorgeous photo galleries, and the ability to customize the kind of news you want to see on your homepage. The interface may be a little cluttered with ads and article ratings, but that's easy to forgive since everything else about AP Mobile works so well. Overall rating: 4.5 stars out of 5.

2. The New York Times App

The NY Times iPhone App

The New York Times iPhone app (The NY Times, Free) isn't the best for breaking news, and it doesn't support push notifications. Even so, this app provides access to the Times' in-depth reporting on a variety of topics, and you can save news articles for up to seven days. Offline reading is another plus. The interface is snazzy and there are lots of sharing options via text, Twitter, or emailOverall rating: 4 stars out of 5.

3. NPR News iPhone App

NPR iPhone App

Not surprisingly, the iPhone app from National Public Radio (NPR, Free) focuses on radio news with an hourly newscast and access to popular NPR radio shows. You can stream both live or archived episodes. There are also plenty of print articles to accompany the hours of radio content available in the NPR app. Some sections -- like science and technology -- could be beefed up a bit, but overall the quality of reporting here is excellent. Overall rating: 4 stars out of 5.

4. Fluent News Reader

Fluent News Reader

If you get your news from a variety of different sources, the Fluent News Reader (Fluent Mobile Inc, Free) is worth a look. This app compiles news and headlines from organizations like Fox News, the BBC, the Wall Street Journal, and USA Today. You can customize which sources display headlines on the homepage, but I wish you could add news sites that are not included. There are some ads in this free app, but the wide news coverage makes it worth a download. Overall rating: 4 stars out of 5.

5. CNN Mobile

CNN Mobile App

If you prefer video news, the CNN Mobile app (CNN Interactive Group, $1.99) is probably your best bet. It has an excellent selection of videos, including clips from CNN shows, and you can also surf user-generated content in the iReport section. CNN Mobile provides breaking news alerts and local news and weather. I found the news coverage a little slim compared to apps like AP Mobile, but CNN still offers a slick news app that most will enjoy. Overall rating: 3.5 stars out of 5.

6. MSNBC News

MSNBC iPhone App
Zumobi,
The MSNBC news app (Zumobi Inc, Free) does one of the best jobs of sending out breaking news alerts using push notifications. The alerts are timely and relevant, but you can turn them off if they bother you. This app is a good choice if you regularly watch The Today Show, NBC Nightly News or other NBC news programming, since it includes lots of video segments from those shows. However, the MSNBC app has a ton of ads and it feels a bit more commercial than some of the other iPhone news apps. Overall rating: 3.5 stars out of 5.

Google's thought : An Android TV

-Google's plans for the living room come into focus with a simple TV interface, apps, and games.

Just a few days after Amazon unveiled the Fire TV, Google will reportedly launch its own set-top box.
The Mountain View, Calif. company is close to debuting Android TV, an Android-powered platform that will compete directly with the Fire TV, Apple TV and Roku. Google will still sell its Chromecast device, a $35 dongle that plugs into any HDTV to let you watch online videos from your tablet, smartphone or computer.
Video app providers are currently working hard to build for Android TV. The device will also be compatible with gaming, and come with an optional gaming controller, much like the Fire TV.
Documents obtained by The Verge outline a simpler approach than Google TV, which launched in 2010, and aimed to turn TV sets into larger versions of smartphones.
"Android TV is an entertainment interface, not a computing platform," the document said. "It’s all about finding and enjoying content with the least amount of friction." It will be "cinematic, fun, fluid, and fast."
Android TV will support voice commands (like the Fire TV), and focus on finding content quickly. The document describes how it shouldn't take more than three clicks to go from the home screen to watching content.
"Access to content should be simple and magical," it said.

The news follows reports that the company is in talks to launch its own wireless service in regions where it already offers Google Fiber Internet and TV service. Considering that Google already dominates with its search engine and Android mobile operating system, it's a natural (yet ambitious) step for the company to try to keep all mobile communications within its ecosystem.

eBay Now Allows Virtual Currency Sales

eBay, owners of payment service PayPal, has quietly added a new Virtual Currencycategory to their sales site, allowing users to sell virtual currency like bitcoin, as well as miners, and mining contracts.
The category is sparsely populated right now and the listings are all classified ads, suggesting that eBay wants buyer and seller to hash out their sale outside of the company’s jurisdiction, thereby reducing risk of become liable for scams and fake sales.
The company has been moving into digital sales over the past year but has long held a no-nonsense policy against digitally downloaded items. One listing for dogecoin, for example, notes that the cryptographic keys to the currency will be sent, presumably on a thumb drive or hard copy, via USPS or UPS rather than via email, something eBay has long frowned upon.
The category is so scattershot and clearly new that there is no telling just how this will change eBay’s policies towards digital items. Considering bitcoin is a direct competitor to PayPal and recent patent filings have shown eBay is working towards a type of cryptocurrency for its users, it makes sense for them to test the waters in this way. I’ve reached out to eBay for comment and will update when they respond.

Art of cracking any EXAMS!!!!!!

“Do you want to make it to your dream college?”, ” Do you want to crack the exams and come out with flying colours?”, “ Do you want to make your parents and teachers, and most of all, yourself, proud?” and “Do you want to live the future you have imagined?” are common questions that lakhs of students encounter every year.  It is every student’s dream to secure high scores and get into a prestigious college. It is the first step towards the future they dream of having, whether it lies in pursuing the career of their choice or the research field they are interested in.
Every year, lakhs of students battle and sweat it out in the competitive exams, whether it is the IIT-JEE and other engineering entrance exams, the medical entrance exams, the CAT, the GRE, the CLAT or the highly competitive UPSC exams. The exam season is full of frenzy and late night studies, last minute brush-ups and sleepless nights. The whole atmosphere is filled with anxiety and stress. Students prepare assiduously for the exams all the year round. Competitive exams are the deciders. The ranks you secure in these will decide your future course of action. It is then no wonder that there is so much hype surrounding them. Besides, a person who successfully clears a competitive exam is looked at with much awe and respect. If you top any exam, there is no looking back! The world is your oyster! Nevertheless, in this article, I have written about few ways to prepare effectively for competitive exams, which will give you that extra edge. Read them and try to follow them sincerely, if you are an eager aspirant!
10. Join a good coaching institute
coaching
This is the first step that you should take. Self study and coaching at school may not always be sufficient. Competitive exams are quite different from the usual college level or school level exams and the Board exams. You need to follow a different method to approach these exams. A reputed and credible coaching institute will help you with this requirement. Attend the classes regularly and follow them diligently.
9. Get familiar with the pattern
mock
Get yourself acquainted with the pattern of the various exams you may be taking up. This will help you solve the paper better and be more confident in your approach, since you already have a taste of what’s going to come your way. Take mock tests and see how you fare in them. Take them seriously and improve upon your performance each time. Get in touch with your seniors and take their valuable advice. Approach your teachers and mentors for their valuable guidance.
Also, have a look at the previous years’ papers and try to solve them. You will get a very good idea of how your paper will feel like.
8. Stay calm and meditate
meditate
It is natural to get tensed and anxious during such times of stress. If you are not doing well in your mock tests, you get all the more worried. However, for your utmost and optimum performance, try to remain calm and composed. Only then can you figure out where your mistake lies. Do not lose your cool. Your mind will work its best when you are calm. Try and practice meditation on a regular basis. Not only does it calm you down, but it also boosts your memory and reasoning skills.
7. Eat healthy and exercise
dietnex
This is one overlooked aspect of preparation. Your diet and health takes a backseat, amidst all the chaos! Do not compromise on your diet and sleep pattern. A balanced diet is the most important thing to follow for good health. You will also improve your immunity and not fall sick often, if you follow the right diet. Try and exercise regularly, at least for four or five days a week, an hour each day. It boosts your metabolism (obviously!) and your energy levels! You will then gain more stamina and this is sure to help you in your preparation.
6. Be disciplined
discip
Discipline is very important to achieve anything.  Follow a strict routine and stick to it. Do not deviate from it. Follow a regular sleep routine. Sleep the minimum number of hours required for it is necessary. About seven to eight hours everyday. Do not sleep for too long, or it will be the only thing you do! Take power naps in between, during the day, but not for too long. Make a timetable, work out a plan and execute it sincerely! Follow healthy habits. Very important: Do not heed to distractions! Be focused!
5. Stay very energetic and motivated
motivat
Motivation is an extremely important factor that determines whether you succeed or not! Stay very energetic and highly motivated. It is only motivation that can induce positive feelings and thoughts in you, to work very hard and reach out towards your goal. One failure must not deter your spirit. Your will power must be very strong. Make your determination unbreakable! You should make up your mind to succeed, no matter what. Perseverance is the word! Persevere, try harder and never give up! Obstacles are tiny hurdles that seem big when you cannot focus properly!
4. Focus on your strengths: The SWOT Analysis
swot
Try the SWOT Analysis. SWOT stands for Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats. It is a very effective technique that tells you your strengths and weaknesses. Through this technique, you will know where your strengths lie and where exactly you go wrong. Work hard to overcome your weaknesses. Give extra time to them. Analyze as to how you can minimize them. Do not hesitate to seek professional help if necessary. At the same time, make sure that your strengths and plus points make you stand out.  Polish your strengths and try to perfect them.
3. Study and practice everyday
studyyy
Yes, studying on a regular basis is a MUST. I cannot stress on how important this point is! Do not at any cost, I reiterate, do not procrastinate! Finish your work on a daily basis and do not keep anything pending for the next day. You may get many doubts while studying. Get them cleared from your professors or teachers as soon as possible. Practice makes you perfect. Practice everyday. It is the only way to excel in your subjects. Practice different kinds of questions or sources. Refer to various methods and solutions, from many reliable sources. If you practice continuously, you will see great improvement in your performance.
2. Be thorough with the fundamentals and adopt the right strategy
strategy
It is imperative and demanding that you get your basics right! Brush up on your fundamentals. This should in fact be the first step you take, lest you should find it too complex later on. Without getting the fundamentals right, it is difficult to proceed with the later concepts of the subject. Therefore, work very hard if you are not very good at the basics. No matter how hard it is or how much time it take, trust me on this, it is worth the effort! The rest of the journey becomes easy once you accomplish this!
Make very sure that you adopt the right strategy to prepare and attend the exam. Many times, success eludes students due to the incorrect approach.
1.Time management: the key to success!
timem
Time Management is the most important aspect of your preparation. It all comes down to this: how you manage your time. Whether it is while you are preparing for your exams or when are attending your exam. While you are preparing, do not while away all of your time. Time is very precious! It is gold. Try to make best use of it. Do not indulge in activities that are useless. Do something worthwhile.
While attending your exam, make sure you allot proper time slots to each section and attempt it within that, lest you should mess it up!
Last, but not the lease, revise very well few days before the exam. The night before the exam, set your  mind free and get plenty of rest!
Keep Calm. All the very best!
